Random

I've noticed that some foods make the back of my throat/mouth itch. These include:

Mangoes
Avocados
Lychees

and probably some others I can't think of at the moment. Is there some compound common to all these fruits that would cause such a reaction? The itchiness sticks around for a few minutes after I eat the fruits, and is only mildly annoying. I love the foods listed and so the itchiness doesn't stop me eating them, but I do wonder what the deal is. Doctors? Dieticians? Nutritionists? Nurses? Anyone?

It's some kind of enzyme ... thing. Bananas, watermelon, and pineapple make my mouth itch a bit, too. If I eat a banana, I have to eat something else right afterward or my mouth continues to unhappily itch.

How random is this!! I have the same problem with Lychees but I really like them so I'll still eat them. I have the same problem with Longans but because generally there isn't much to them, it's not worth the itch. Do you have the same problem with canned lychees. I can eat these with no problems except for the fact that they contain too much sugar!!

Hm, I know that mango leaves and sap can cause a rash similar to poison ivy, but I'm not sure if that would be related to your mouth itch. The fruit itself isn't supposed to have the same poisons as the leaves.

As far as avocado and lychees... I have no idea! Mild food allergies are pretty common though.

these foods are giving you some type of histamine release...that is causing allergic like symptoms. Do you also have similiar reactions to bananas and kiwis? If so, you may have a latex sensitivity.
