swatch and a poll

Which do you prefer? I'd love to hear your opinions.

Exhibit A: horseshoes lace (from my Reader's Digest book of needlework (thanks, H!))

or Exhibit B: gothic leaf pattern (from B. Walker's Second Treasury)

They're both knit in the Be Sweet Bamboo I got in London. My idea is to make a lacy summer shell from it (for when I move to a country that has a summer, obviously), so it will be an all over lace pattern. I can't decide whether I like the curves of the horseshoes lace or the strong diagonal elements of the gothic leaf.

I like them both, but I think the gothic pattern would make a nicer shell, possibly because the pattern repeats are larger. Such nice yarn though, and a brilliant colour!

If you were doing just a section of lace at the end of your shell, i would pick the first one. Since you want an overall pattern, i would go with the second one because it looks stronger and less fussy than the first one.

I like the first one, but that's perhaps because there have been a lot of leaf-lace socks and shawls around recently and I'm a bit tired of them. (although the embossed leaves socks are still on the to-knit list).

I also think the vertical points of the first one would be flattering on a top.

I like the first pattern because I like the look of the all over pattern, it would look lovely as summer shell...

I loved them both when I first looked at them... but then... I started not liking either. am I weird?

perhaps I'm not a lace-person...

... if you MADE me choose, I would go with the gothic leaves as the overall effect is less busy than the horseshoe pattern.

The first one because it's less "holey" and so maybe can be worn without something underneath? Although I'm terrible at visualising so that might not be such a great suggestion. Love the colour though!!

ok, now that I'm looking at them again, I like the first one better... more visually insteresting.

dangit, don't listen to me. I know nothing.

Okay, I started liking the 2nd leaf one, but I think for a petite, light, shell garment, a smaller overall pattern would fit. For what it's worth....

Its a summer top, and it uses the your first lace pattern. I'm actually knitting it now Be Sweet Bamboo . . .
