Central Park Copy

Central Park Cardi
Yarn: 450 g of Aran Tweed that I got from Commodum, in Dingle
Needles: 3.5 mm for the body, with the collar knit on 4.0 mm and 4.5 mm
Pattern: a shameless copy of Knitscene's Central Park Hoodie

Notes: Well, you know, I couldn't get a copy of the Fall 2006 Knitscene, and the other possibilities I had for this yarn didn't work out. I looked at a bunch of CPHs, counted ribs and cables, crossed my fingers and went for it. I do cables without a cable needle, using Grumperina's tutorial.
Here's a look at the double, mirrored cable on the back. Uh, ignore the wonky collar there.

As you can see, I don't have a hood. I ran out of yarn, so just put in a tall collar instead. This way, when it's cold, I can just wear the collar up for a bit of extra warmth.

I will probably just end up wearing it open a lot.

I think this project made me totally fall in love with cables. I used to think they were a bit too much, too busy visually, but not so!

Right here next to my work computer I have a postcard I sent myself when I was on holiday in Ireland of Connemara... or more specifically, a rocky grassy plain with some dramatic rocky mountains behind it, and a handful of sheep with splotches of paint on them to identify them looking warily at the photographer.

Dude, I'm totally looking at your sweater pre-shearing, spinning, dying, and knitting!

ok ok, dingle is a little south of connemara... so maybe a cousin of your central park cardi?

Oh, I like yours better than the pattern as written. Yay for running out of yarn!

Hmm, that statement will likely come back to bite me in the ass.

Okay, it's a stunner. Like everything else. And exactly how many articles of clothing have you finished while I'm still on the same ol' thing...which I've forgotten what it actually is....cuz I've put it somewhere...and can't find it now.....when was the last time I picked up needles...? Ack!

Great job, I like the collar modification... might have to steal it for my outstanding collar modification! :)

isn't commodium fabulous? my best friend lives in castlegregory, so i try to visit every year. i always buy TONS of yarn in dingle. can't get enough of it.

anyway, your sweater is fabulous, and the color is beautiful. and, yes, that yarn lends itself to cables very nicely, i think.
